Our Story

Will remained strong in his faith throughout his battle and was surrounded by wonderful and supportive friends and family.

WillStrong Foundation was created in the legacy of Will Flewelling. Will was diagnosed with Stage 3 Melanoma at the end of his senior year at Ludington High School. He went into remission for 6 short months and was re-diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma in January 2020. Will went through a variety of treatments and trials, including targeted therapy, immunotherapy, radiation, and chemotherapy. Will remained strong in his faith throughout his battle and was surrounded by wonderful and supportive friends and family. Will decided he wanted to support the Childhood Cancer Campaign in our area by holding lemonade stands and hosting the original WillStrong Soccer Tournament. Will passed away at the age of 20 on May 31, 2021.

Will had many passions in his life. He played on LHS's varsity soccer team for four years, where he helped his team bring back many state, regional, and quarter-final trophies. Will participated in 4-H from ages 5-20, where he won many Grand Champion and Overall Showman titles. Will had a love for his faith, University of Michigan athletics, the outdoors, hunting, playing euchre, spending time with his friends and fiancee, Randi, and sports betting. Will worked at Legends Taxidermy throughout high school and started his own lawn care business during the summer of 2020.

WillStrong Foundation hopes to hold the ideals of Will Flewelling at its core and strives to help those going through similar battles by providing scholarships and support to local families.

“I think Will has done more for us than we have for him,” Tom Ezdebski said. “The faith and courage he’s demonstrated is an inspiration to all of us. Now he is paying it forward to the Childhood Cancer Campaign through several fundraisers including upcoming lemonade stands and the soccer tournament on June 19. Will is determined to help other families in this area that have a child with cancer.”.”
